IS THE SALARY ENOUGH?

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

(When not in home-office) We spend more time at work every day amongst our colleagues than with our own families. As an employee, can the fact that we get our payment every month really give satisfaction and motivation to get up every morning and give our best at work?

Of course we can take care of every task conscientiously, but we could miss the biggest spice out of it: the passion.

There is a way to classify motivation-at-work in 8 different categories. Which is key if our manager, leader can identify these and take advantage of the opportunity to push our strongest triggers.

Everybody is different, everybody is unique - therefore everybody needs something else to get the satisfaction and happiness at work. All 8 points are present for everyone, but prioritizations are different.

What are the 8 categories? (in random order)

  1. content of work

  2. self-realisation

  3. recognition, praise

  4. promotion, career

  5. responsibility

  6. financial incentive, bonus

  7. relationship with colleagues

  8. relationship with immediate superior

So as a conclusion: most of us can’t get passion only from expensive watches, incentives and become thereby devoted and loyal to our companies.

A leader needs time to learn about their team members and recognise their needs. This journey is essential to give the right boost for the employees to lead them to find daily joy in their work.

For instance: if we push someone for whom that is the least important of the list to build a career - even though a promotion is a huge honour - it will only depress him/her and create an uncomfortable feeling.

If we never delegate any task or challenge someone who has hunger for responsibility , he/she will lose his/her enthusiasm.

If someone has a noble personal goal in the company we should recognise and encourage that!

It’s just simply not possible to put the same dress on everyone. Doesn’t fit.

As a leader it's necessary to learn to think, to see and analyse situations objectively - the leader also has his priority - but it can’t be the guideline of the team!

What is your order? What is your team members' order?
